competes, not just for marketshare, but for the payor as well.
This important aspect of our industry underscores the changing choice
of our consumer.
Today, traditional insured Medicare supplements represent about
60% of choice and provide the highest reimbursement. By 2005,
this number will be less that 30% and in part, replaced by costly
forms of tightly managed care having the lowest return to the hospital.
The good news is that Medicare Select plans will grow to almost
one-third of the market in the same five years. Medicare Select,
like traditional supplements, provides substantially higher reimbursement
to hospitals than HMO's.
